the lyngby vase ——

The beautiful Lyngby vase has been a design icon since 1936, when it was first presented by Porcelænsfabrikken Danmark in Lyngby in Denmark. They continued to produce the vases until 1969, when the company closed.
The vase became a classic due to the simple nature of the column shape, which was a result of the 1930’s ‘Form Follows Function’ way of thinking. After the closure of the factory and seize of production of the vase, it quickly became an incredibly popular collectors item, eagerly sought after by vintage and modern design lovers alike. Many a flea market has been scoured through the desire to find an original Lyngby Vase!

Fast forward 43 years from the closure of the old factory to 2012 and architect Daniel Hilfling decided to bring back this much loved design icon and re-introduce it to Lyngby fans everywhere. He acquired the rights for the name and design, and the rest is history.

With the greatest respect for the original design, the visual of the vase remains the same, while the finish has been brought up to date with a new contemporary glazing, which brings out a stunning texture in the surface of the vase.
Originally made in white, Lyngby by Hilfling now lets you choose from 4 beautiful colours: white, matt black and matt green (all available here from Eighty7) as well as matt blue. Furthermore it is now also produced in stunning clear and smoked glass. Each vase is available in a several sizes, ranging from 9cm-35cm.
There is plenty of scope for expansion of the collection also, and already Lyngby by Hilfling offer the Lyngby Bowl and the Lyngby Candle (can be used as an egg cup, for salt/pepper or a tea light) as well as wonderful dinnerware.
